OVERVIEW
The Hertfordshire local Enterprise Partnership is a non-profit organisation tasked by the Government to promote economic growth in the county of Hertfordshire. One of the LEP’s responsibilities in 2017 was to organise an industry conference: Building Solutions. The event looked at modern methods of construction, a topical subject due to the increased challenge to deliver rapid housing growth in Hertfordshire.
The challenge
Although organised by Hertfordshire LEP, Building Solutions required a unique distinctive identity of its own, to indicate its valuable role and appeal to an informed audience, ranging from industry experts to representatives from local government, central government and planning authorities.

Industry research indicated that a modular, simple, structured design would set the right tone for the event. Building on this (no pun intended!), a limited colour palette of green, black and grey provides an appropriate masculine feel. Green also symbolises growth and has an eco friendly feel.
Initial brainstorming was inspired by the modular artwork of Mondrian. Designs were refined and simplified to achieve the final look, with all items unified by a simple grid system. The Din typeface, historically popular for use on signage, was selected for its geometric lines that convey an industrial look. Its variety of weights enable a clear typographic hierarchy to be established when presenting information. The logo represents the modular theme via a keyline box that replaces the ‘i’s’. This also gives a hint towards solutions and unity.
This project was far more than just a brand identity. Based on the approved identity, a range of materials established a strong visual look right across the conference. Infographics and a map were created in a simple visual style to visualise key information and give clarity to the subject matter. From digital invitation and printed delegate packs, through to Powerpoint templates and brochure; this is a complete design solution.
Results
The conference had great feedback and delegates had a streamlined experience, with every touchpoint clearly linked together visually. A consistent visual identity gave strong impact, clearly defined the event and set a professional tone. To see the branding in action please view this video.

We commissioned Andrea for our first Building Solutions conference to create an identifiable brand and design that would become synonymous both with the conference and the actions arising out of this event.
The branding was used across all our marketing material across a range of media, including print, digital and video, and was very well received by delegates, commentators and key speakers across local and central government, housing and planning authorities as well as modular housing experts. This impact could not have been achieved without Andrea’s design input.
